Re: My '06 Toyota Aurion SX6 Sportivo
Damn, thats good
In The Netherlands the car gets a plate when it's sold (from the dealer to the first owner)
And the car keeps that plate.
So if a car is sold the plates stay on... old owners can see their previous cars drive on the road, coincedentally .
Nice thing about this system is that you can see what the periode / year / month is the car was put on the raod,
as it works via the alfabeth.
Car with plate DD99XX is older than GG99XX as the first lettre is early in the alphabeth.
Example:
The Corollas E11 prefacelift which are driving around here are from 1997 till 1999
All these plates (*) have 2 lettres-2 digits - 2 lettres
Starting with a R - S - T - X or Z
With the ones starting with R released in 1997 and the 1999 ones with X and Z
(*) With exceptions
Bad thing is, it is kinda dull
Gouverment could make money here because where are enough car freaks who would love to spend €X for a personalised licence plate.
I would consider it if it wouldn't cost me more then let's say... € 250
Sorry for hi-jacking your topic

Re: My '06 Toyota Aurion SX6 Sportivo
Sounds logical . What happens if one of the original license plates gets damaged in a crash etc? Does the government agency just remake that particular plate again? Now that I think about it, it is kind of strange that original gov issued plates here can't be remade, but personalized plates can, and it's the exact same procedure on the exact same machine, lol.Namssam schreef:Damn, thats good

It's the same scenario here with the letters at the start denoting how old the car is (unless of course the plates have been replaced). You can see the previous plates the car has had and which date they were put on/removed through the online car check. To give you some idea on the way the prices of brand new personalized plates have risen over the years, back in 2005 I bought a brand new p/plate from the government's supplier and it was $550 (the plate was 'BOOSTU' for a turbo car I used to own). Fast forward 11-years and the price is now $995 (more if you choose extra options such as a different colour or captions). So the price has jumped hugely, and with limited new untaken designs available it doesn't make much sense.

When plates are damaged you can buy new ones.Kiwi-Corolla schreef: . What happens if one of the original license plates gets damaged in a crash etc? Does the government agency just remake that particular plate again? .
But you need to return you old / damaged plates when picking up you new ones.
Plates got a tiny code stamped into them for reconcillation purposes.

Re: My '06 Toyota Aurion SX6 Sportivo
Ohh ok, so the new ones will be the latest in the series? (eg. same as the latest model cars on the road). Or is it a new plate but with your original letters/numbers? The rule here to get new government issued plates if they're damaged or stolen, so the easiest way is to just take one off and hit it with a hammer (and hope that you don't get given a 'GAY101' over the counter )Namssam schreef:When plates are damaged you can buy new ones.Kiwi-Corolla schreef: . And do you see the number one in this plate. If you lost one plate and you can't bring it back you get a duplicate plate with this number one. but the other numbers and letters stay the same. If you lost it again, you get a number 2 on that plate. You have to replace them both in de front and back because it needs both the number 1, or 2 etc.

Re: My '06 Toyota Aurion SX6 Sportivo
LOL thanks for the photo. It's crazy how they publicly emphasize that the plate has been replaced. I thought the number would have been discreetly stamped on the back or something. Imagine if someone kept stealing your plate over and over again and you got up to number 9 (if that's even possible).pampie schreef:

The NL plates remind me of the dealer plates that are used here when you take a freshly imported car for a test-drive:

Re: My '06 Toyota Aurion SX6 Sportivo
It's a little bit weird indeed. If someone stole one of the plates you get that ugly number 1 in your plates. I think that the most people don't like that ugly number specially the car/tuning guys.
In the past i have seen a car with the number 4 in it. I think someone stole it again and again.

Re: My '06 Toyota Aurion SX6 Sportivo
In Belgium it's different once again.
You buy your rear licence-plate once you register your first car. This platz belongs to you personaly (not to the car). If you sell the car and buy a new one, you have to register that new car to the same plate. The old car will be removed from the plate. If you have 2 cars at once, you need to buy a second, different plate.
The front licence plate you can buy in lots of places. As long as it's the right colour, reflective and the right number/letter combo its fine.
If you lose your plates you have to re-order your rear plate and just buy a front one somewhere. Nowhere to be seen that this isn't your first plate.
You can buy personal plates for €1000 (yes one thousand euros). These can consist of 2 to 9 characters (letters and numbers and -). 1 of these have to be the cv logo or a dash with a cv logo on top. Another thing is that you can't choose a combination that is allready registered.

Re: My '06 Toyota Aurion SX6 Sportivo
Haha thanks guys. It's very kind of you to use one of my photos for the page's top banner. Even though I no longer own a Corolla, you all have been very supportive, and for that I thank you
Speaking of cleaning, I washed it and then chucked this front splitter on today. I bought it from the US 7-months ago, and it has sat in the garage while I've been deciding whether to put it on as the front bumper already scrapes on a daily basis. I decided to throw caution to the wind however and this is the result. The EZ Lip I had already fitted is still there (except now sits flat), which provides a decent contrast between the bumper and splitter. I can't see this thing lasting more than a month before getting destroyed by a driveway or speed bump to be honest, but it beats sitting there collecting dust.
LOL! This car is daily driven, so sadly it does get dirty, especially with the unpredictable Auckland weather which gives you rain 1-minute and then sun the next. It's often hard to keep it clean all the time, so when I do spend what feels like an eternity cleaning it I try and take some photos of the car at the same time to make it all worth it . Although parking it up and keeping it clean 24/7 sure does sound like an easier optionmasterpivo schreef:Sometimes I ask myself: does this guy ever drive his car or is it only a show model? Re: My '06 Toyota Aurion SX6 Sportivo
It fits very very nice!! Also together with the EZ lip.
But 'will last more than a month'...?? Hell no!! You will never hold this one (in good condition) for more than a month!

^ Haha dreams are free!!
Well, it's been a week so far and the splitter is still there, without any real damage. I've scraped it on a bunch of entrances etc, despite being extremely careful and taking extreme angles wherever possible, but so far so good. The goal of making it to at least a month could well be achievable, but time will tell

Good for you that the lip is still there. You seem to gave scraped off your hood though. Maybe by entering an underground parking.

Hahaha, yes, the splitter seems to have had a reverse effect. Instead of scraping off the bumper it has peeled off the hood
In all seriousness though, I've been trying out different types of photography lately, so if I think of anything else I'll be sure to post them here. Such as the one below:

Re: My '06 Toyota Aurion SX6 Sportivo
Well guys, it's been almost 2-years since I sold the Aurion, and I'm pleased to say that I bought it back a couple of weeks ago from the same person I sold it to. When I originally sold the Aurion it was a regretful sale, but we were buying our first home and the difference between our offer on the house and what the seller was willing to accept was about the cost of the car, so sadly it had to go. I've wanted it back ever since, so when the opportunity arose to buy it back I decided to take it.
She still looks the same as the day I sold her, albeit with a few more km's and stone chips here and there, but for the most part she's exactly as I remember. I also have a Lexus IS350 which I take turns driving to work on alternate days, but they both share the garage together and it's a nice feeling to have the old girl back again.

I've had this particular style of LED rear bumper lamps installed for the last 3-years, but after noticing that one of them had moisture inside the lens I decided to swap them out for new ones - And to my surprise, they now do one with a sequential indicator instead of a normal flashing one, so they're even better than before!
